The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) marked a major milestone with the celebration of its 20th Anniversary Gala and Corporate Governance Awards, held in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event was an evening of elegance, reflection, and recognition, honouring two decades of SCGN’s unwavering commitment to promoting ethical leadership and governance excellence in Nigeria.
The Gala brought together distinguished leaders, Fellows, and members of the Society to commemorate SCGN’s journey, reflect on its impact, and celebrate the milestones that have shaped its evolution over the years.
Beyond the celebration, the Maiden Corporate Governance Awards segment spotlighted institutions and individuals whose exemplary leadership, commitment to transparency, accountability, and innovation continue to redefine governance standards across sectors. It was not just a night of recognition, but a reaffirmation of the Society’s enduring vision—a future anchored on integrity, sustainability, and responsible leadership.
In his goodwill message, Fabian Ajogwu, OFR, SAN, Founding President of SCGN, reflected on the Society’s journey:
“Our Fellows are walking classrooms of what it means to be ethical, responsible leaders. As we celebrate 20 years, we do so with pride in the progress we have made and with determination for the road ahead. Our celebrations today inspire us to work even harder towards our purpose continuing to set the stage for the future.”
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Muhammad K. Ahmad, President of SCGN, commended the Society’s growing impact within the private sector, “In terms of compliance within the private sector, I believe we are doing very well. The progress we have made underscores the relevance of our mission and the continued importance of strong governance in building sustainable institutions.” He said.
In furtherance of its purpose, the Society also announced the Pro Bono Initiative, a 20th Anniversary effort designed to offer free board advisory services to one SME and one non-profit organisation (NPO). Beneficiaries of the initiative expressed appreciation to the Society for its continued support and leadership, congratulating the Society on its milestone anniversary.
