CPSG Hosts High-Level Virtual Symposium on Public Sector Boards

The Centre for Public Sector Governance (CPSG) has announced its first-ever virtual symposium, set for Thursday, October 23, 2025, with the theme: “Reimagining Public Sector Boards: Global Insights for Africa’s Transformation.”

The symposium builds on CPSG’s momentum from last year’s successful inaugural conference in Abuja, which focused on strengthening leadership and ethics within public sector institutions. This time, the Centre is going virtual to attract a wider audience—giving policymakers, governance experts, academics, and citizens from Nigeria, Africa, and beyond the chance to participate in an open, globally connected dialogue.

The event will feature a lineup of distinguished speakers and thought leaders. Dr. Femi Ogunrinde, DHA, C.Dir, ASC, FACHDM—an internationally respected governance architect with more than 30 years of experience across Canada and Africa—will deliver the keynote address. The session will be chaired by Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, OFR, Chairman of the CPSG Advisory Board, former Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and current Chairman of MTN Nigeria.

Also billed to contribute are Mr. Odein Ajumogobia, SAN, OFR, former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and renowned legal luminary, who will share guest insights, while Professor Bongo Adi, economist and data analytics expert from Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University, will serve as moderator.

Speaking ahead of the event, CPSG underscored the timeliness of the symposium:“The choice of a virtual symposium is deliberate. We want leaders, regulators, and governance practitioners from across the world to contribute to the reimagination of Africa’s public sector boards. This is not a Nigerian conversation alone—it is an African and global dialogue. Our collective governance future depends on the strength of our public institutions.”

The discussion comes at a critical juncture for Africa’s governance systems. With growing fiscal pressures, economic uncertainty, and calls for reforms that emphasize transparency, accountability, and efficiency, CPSG stresses that boards of public institutions must be repositioned as strategic drivers of transformation rather than mere administrative structures.

Through this symposium and its broader initiatives, CPSG reaffirms its mission to advance accountability, transparency, and ethical practices in state-owned enterprises and public bodies. The Centre continues to push for reforms that are not only globally informed but also locally relevant and sustainable.

Participation is open, and CPSG is calling on leaders, policymakers, professionals, and stakeholders across public and private sectors to join the dialogue shaping the future of public governance.
