Nigeria’s leading tech company, MTN Nigeria commemorated International Women’s Day with an event, themed “Scaling with Impact | Strategies for Building Resilient Businesses,” which provided a powerful platform for women entrepreneurs to gain insights, network, and position their businesses for sustainable growth.

Held at the MTN Rooftop, Falomo, Ikoyi, on March 28, 2025, the event gathered over 250 businesswomen, thought leaders, and industry professionals, sparking engaging discussions on business resilience, technology adoption, and overcoming entrepreneurial barriers.

What are the key takeaways from the event?

    1. Technology is a Game-Changer for Women Entrepreneurs

One of the most talked-about sessions was led by Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, who emphasised the power of technology in business scalability. “Women entrepreneurs who embrace digital tools will have a competitive edge. From leveraging cloud computing to expanding through e-commerce, technology is a non-negotiable driver of growth,” she stated.

She encouraged SMEs to adopt digital efficiency solutions, including online payment systems, AI-driven customer engagement, and data analytics for informed decision-making.

    2. Scaling Requires Strategic Leadership & Strong Company Culture

According to Ifeyinwa Ighodalo (CEO, DO.II Designs), a company’s success is rooted in its leadership and workplace culture. “Growth is not accidental, it is intentional. You need a clear vision, a strong team, and a culture that fosters innovation and resilience,” she shared.

She advised women entrepreneurs to prioritise team building, invest in training, and create an environment that attracts and retains top talent.

    3. Overcoming Financial Barriers is Possible with the Right Approach

Funding remains one of the biggest challenges for women-led businesses. However, Bolanle Tyson (Head, SME Products, Sterling Bank) reassured attendees that alternative financing options are available saying, “You don’t always need a traditional bank loan to scale. Fintech platforms, angel investors, and government-backed grants provide accessible funding opportunities for women entrepreneurs.”

She encouraged entrepreneurs to build strong financial records, seek out SME-friendly banks, and explore digital banking solutions for business growth.

    4. The Power of Networking & Mentorship

Beyond the discussions, the event provided valuable networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect with industry leaders, potential investors, and like-minded entrepreneurs.

A major highlight was the all-expense-paid mentoring dinner, where three entrepreneurs received exclusive business coaching from top executives.

One of the attendees, Adaobi Okonkwo, a fashion entrepreneur, shared her excitement: “I have gained so much clarity on how to structure my business for growth. The mentorship opportunity is a dream come true!”

    1. MTN’s Continued Support for Women in Business

MTN Nigeria’s Enterprise Business Division reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women-led businesses through technology-driven solutions and strategic collaborations.

As Lynda Saint-Nwafor (Chief Enterprise Business Officer, MTN Nigeria) stated: “At MTN, we believe in creating opportunities for women entrepreneurs to thrive. Through events like this, we are providing the tools, insights, and networks needed to build resilient businesses that can scale successfully.”

The event was more than just a business gathering—it was a catalyst for transformation, equipping women entrepreneurs with the knowledge, connections, and inspiration needed to scale their businesses with impact.

With the insights gained and networks formed, attendees left the event better positioned to drive their businesses forward in an increasingly competitive economy.
